Qatar to Host Five Straight FIFA U-17 World Cup Tournaments from 2025
On March 14, 2024, the FIFA Council met and revealed that Qatar will host the next five FIFA U-17 World Cup tournaments from 2025 to 2029.
This decision follows FIFA's commitment to youth football, expanding the tournament to 48 teams and making it an annual event instead of every two years. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will also have 24 teams and be held annually from 2025, hosted by Morocco until 2029.
Both decisions came after a global call for hosting interest, emphasizing the use of existing football infrastructure for tournament efficiency and sustainability.
The FIFA Council also unanimously approved the Annual Report 2023, showcasing FIFA's strong financial position with record investment in football development. This report will be presented to the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok on May 17, 2024, for final approval.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed satisfaction with FIFA's financial governance, stating that it will enable tailored services for member associations to enhance football development.
Additionally, the voting procedure for selecting the host(s) of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 was confirmed, with bids from Brazil, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, and the United States. The final decision will be made in Bangkok in May by FIFA's member associations.
