FIFA Increases U-17 World Cup Teams to 48; Qatar to Host Next Five Tournaments
The FIFA Council has confirmed that the FIFA U-17 World Cup will now have 48 teams, as reported by BSNSports.com.ng. This football event will occur every year instead of every two years, showing FIFA's strong dedication to youth football. It's also confirmed that the next five tournaments, starting in 2025, will be held in Qatar.
This means Qatar will host the next five tournaments from 2025 onward.
Nigeria has won the most titles in the tournament's history, with five victories.
Additionally, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, now expanded to 24 teams, will also be played annually starting in 2025 and will be hosted by Morocco until 2029.
These decisions came after a global call for hosting interest, with a focus on utilizing existing football infrastructure for tournament efficiency and sustainability.
