UNICEF Reports: More than 13,000 Children Lost Lives in Gaza due to Israel's Actions

 Ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have lasted for 163 days have resulted in the deaths of over 31,645 Palestinians and injuries to 73,676 more. Many are urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign amidst mounting calls for peace.



1845 - GMT                                                                                       the UN children's agency reported that more than 13,000 children lost their lives in Gaza during Israel's offensive. Many of these children were suffering  from severe malnutrition, to the point where they did not even have the energy to cry. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell highlighted that thousands more children were injured with some possibly trapped under rubble. She emphasized that this level of child casualties is unprecedented  even compared to other conflicts worldwide.

I have seen children in hospital wards suffering from severe malnutrition and anemia. The entire ward is eerily quiet because these children, even the babies do not have enough energy to cry, Russell explained. She also highlighted significant bureaucratic hurdles in delivering aid and assistance to Gaza via trucks.

Additionally Mitsotakis voiced worries about Israel's planned ground offensive in Rafah. which he shares with European leaders.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that any peace deal for Gaza must not weaken Israel's ability to protect itself from its enemies. He expressed this during a press conference in West Jerusalem alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Netanyahu emphasized that a peace agreement should not leave Israel vulnerable, as it would hinder progress. He reiterated Israel's duty to ensure security in Gaza. Netanyahu also assured that when Israel initiates an anticipated attack on southern Gaza City, civilians in Rafah won't be abandoned. Instead, measures will be taken to facilitate their safe departure.

During discussions at an Egyptian European summit in Cairo Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi emphasized that Egypt would not permit the involuntary relocation of Palestinians from Gaza. "Egypt opposes moving Palestinians forcefully to its territory and will prevent it stated the Egyptian president according to a presidential announcement. Sisi also highlighted the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza.

Egypt Urges Immediate Ceasefire and Opposes Israeli Ground Attack in Rafah

Egypt has strongly advised against any Israeli ground attack on Rafah a city in southern Gaza. They have urged international leaders and the UN Security Council to act responsibly by calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry such an attack would put Palestinian civilians at risk, especially those seeking safety in Rafah which is considered one of the last safe places in Gaza.

The ministry emphasized that any military operation in Rafah despite being rejected internationally shows a lack of concern for innocent civilians and violates both international law and humanitarian principles.

Egypt also urged Israel to halt its practices that harm Gaza's residents including imposing blockades causing starvation, targeting civilians without discrimination, and damaging infrastructure.

The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) mentioned that Gaza residents are close to famine. They emphasized the importance of providing aid to as many people as possible. UNRWA stated that delivering humanitarian assistance directly is the best and safest method. They stressed that continuous access to Gaza is crucial for saving lives.

1247 GMT — Fresh Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Amid Tensions with Hezbollah

According to reports from local media Israeli warplanes carried out new airstrikes in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s state run National News Agency stated that Israeli fighter jets bombed a house in the border town of Aitaroun. This same house had previously been hit in an airstrike on Saturday.

Additionally, another Israeli airstrike was reported in the town of Ayta ash Shab.

As of now there have been no reports of casualties or damage resulting from these airstrikes.

Jordan and Germany express concern over potential Israeli ground assault on Rafah emphasizing its detrimental impact on humanitarian situation in southern Gaza.

Jordan's King Abdullah II met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Aqaba to discuss Gaza developments, according to a statement from the royal court.

Abdullah stressed the urgent need for international community to swiftly achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

He urged intensified efforts to safeguard civilians and deliver ample humanitarian aid through all available channels.

Both leaders cautioned that an Israeli ground offensive on Rafah where 1.4 million seek refuge amid ongoing conflict would worsen Gaza's humanitarian crisis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces are planning to carry out a ground attack in the southern Gaza city of Rafah sparking concerns about the possibility of numerous civilian casualties.

1140 GMT — New airstrikes by the US and UK hit targets in Yemen says the Houthi group.

American and British military planes recently launched new attacks on Houthi locations in Yemen, as reported by the Yemeni group.

Al Masirah TV mentioned that one of the airstrikes hit At Taiziyah district in southwestern Taiz province.

This airstrike occurred shortly after the US Central Command announced that US forces had destroyed five unmanned surface vessels and a drone in areas controlled by the Houthis citing self defense reasons.

1127 GMT — help is coming to northern Gaza while Israel and Hamas think about peace talks.

Trucks carrying flour have arrived in northern Gaza to provide aid to areas that have not received assistance in four months, as reported by Palestinian media. This comes amid concerns of famine in the region and with talks for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas set to resume in Qatar.

Twelve trucks reached the northern part of Gaza with six going to Gaza City and six to the Jabalia refugee camp. These trucks brought supplies that will also be given to Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun as reported by the media and residents.

The aid was distributed by the Popular Committees, a group that includes leaders of influential clans in Gaza according to a report by the Home Front media outlet. They mentioned that the route was safeguarded by Hamas security personnel.

1052 GMT — Israel detains 25 additional Palestinians in West Bank operations

Israeli military forces have captured 25 more Palestinians in operations across the West Bank as reported by prisoners' rights groups.

The majority of these detentions occurred in Hebron, Bethlehem and Qalqilya, Jenin, Tulkarm, Ramallah and East Jerusalem, as stated by the Commission of Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society.

A child and a woman from Gaza were among those detained according to the joint statement.

These recent arrests have increased the total number of Palestinians held by Israeli forces in the West Bank since October 7 2023 to 7,630 according to Palestinian sources.

The Gaza health ministry reported that at least 61 Palestinians died in Israeli airstrikes overnight. Meanwhile Israel was getting ready to send representatives for new ceasefire discussions in Qatar.

The security cabinet and smaller war cabinet of Israel were scheduled to convene to determine the tasks of the delegation leading the talks before heading to Doha according to the prime minister office.

The timing for the delegation's departure for the latest round of talks was not specified in the statement. These talks follow Hamas' submission of a new proposal for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

0345 GMT — Latest Clash in Red Sea: US Destroys Houthi Drones

The US military destroyed a drone launched by Yemen's Houthis toward the Red Sea and eliminated more of their weapons, according to a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM reported on X formerly Twitter that Houthis fired two drones towards the Red Sea an important route for commerce which they have attacked multiple times in the last four months.

The statement mentioned that CENTCOM forces successfully engaged and destroyed one drone while the other likely crashed into the Red Sea. There were no reports of harm or damage to ships in the vicinity.
